On Track

A film for the Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District about a working group of local governments and First Nations studying whether rail service could return to the Alberni Valley.

The Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District, the City of Port Alberni, Tseshaht First Nation and Hupačasath First Nation formed a working group to study whether the rail line into the Alberni Valley could be restored and upgraded. Nothing was being built yet. The work was research, and learning how to work together.

That is a hard thing to make a film about. On Track tells it as a story instead of a summary of meetings, using footage from around the valley, motion graphics and playful sound design to keep it moving.

The film reached thousands of views across several platforms and got people in the valley talking about the project. For much of the public, it was the first they heard of the working group and its funding. Salmonberry Studios handled the full production and advised on communication strategy, working in Port Alberni, where the studio is based.
